Emotional Wellness

You can take control of your moods & emotions!

Let me be clear: This is NOT medical advice, so please contact a professional if you need medical support.

I'm sharing what works for me after years of dealing with anxiety and feeling like I had no choice but to use prescription medication. In my case it was simply not true, I just had to educate myself on the options and take control of my health.

MENTAL & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Let's talk about anxiety... something I'm really familiar with. And yes, it sucks. It can sneak up on you and hit you when you least expect it. Then there's all the the other negative feelings: depression, sadness, shame, guilt, panic attacks, anger, apathy, etc.

Check out my BLOG post for practical suggestions on how to get relief from anxious feelings.

Below are my recommendations for easing specific negative emotions. You'll also see the Adaptiv System and the Emotional Aromatherapy Kit shown below. Both of these are invaluable in helping you feel better, stay sane and in control of your emotions.

I take Adaptiv capsules every day, 1 in the morning, 1 at night, and use the roller over my solar plexus, behind my neck, on temples.

I also use the Emotional Aromatherapy rollers as needed. Such a great support system to have on hand.

Anxious : Adaptiv system, Balance, Melissa

Depressed : Adaptiv system, Balance, Cheer

Sad : Adaptiv system, Cheer, Citrus Bliss

ADD/ADHD : InTune, Frankincense, Thinker

Angry: : Cardamom, Serenity, Peace

mental & physical energy

Creating more mental & physical energy is all about creating a healthy foundation based on simple daily habits.

Are you doing the things that give your body the fuel it needs to function and thrive, not just survive? I'm talking about eating high quality real food, drinking lots of clean water including hydrogen water, getting enough rest and sleep, etc.  Also, did you know your gut health is directly related to your mental health? It's true.

Since it's virtually impossible to get all of the nutrients our body needs from food (depleted soil, pesticide and herbicide use, GMOs), whole-food supplementation is key in supporting our bodies nutritional needs. I take LLV (Lifelong Vitality) supplements from doTERRA every day, and if I forget to take them, I can literally feel the difference. It feels like low energy around 3-4pm, and mental fatigue... ugh.

LLV is the foundation for overall wellness, and it's part of the Vibrant Body & Mind Kit, which also features Frankincense for brain support, Balance Grounding blend and Lavender for calming, Lemon for cleansing, and OnGuard Protective blend for cellular support. This Kit also includes the Adaptiv Calming System, which I use daily for mental & emotional stability and sanity.

Joy, Peace & happiness

Is there anything better than being in your 'happy place' with your best friend? Obviously, that's a 'no', but since you probably have to work, take care of your family, clean the house, etc., how can you get that feeling when you can't be at your 'happy place'?

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Make a Joy List. Include several things that are Free, and things that Cost Money. This will give you reminders of things that make you feel happy, and you can do them as needed. For example:
    • Free: Walking your dog, watching a sunrise or sunset, getting grounded outside, reading a book, sitting outside, playing with your kids or pet, being in nature, taking a relaxing bath with a glass of wine, listening to music, watching your favorite movie or TV show...
    • Costs Money: Buy yourself some fresh flowers, go out for a fabulous dinner with your best friend, visit a museum, start a new hobby (drawing, painting, glass-blowing), start a new collection (art, martini glasses), go on a vacation, go to a concert, go to a sports event...
  • Try Aromatherapy with Elevation Joyful Blend or Cheer Uplifting Blend, both by doTERRA.
  • Decide to be happy. Don't look for things out there to make you happy. It comes from within, regardless of your circumstances. Seriously.

Creative expression

Remember how fun it was to create art when you were a kid? Finger painting, cutting out pieces of construction paper with those round little scissors and gluing them to a poster, or drawing pictures to hang on the fridge? You were experiencing the fun and joy of just creating and playing with shapes and colors. No judgement, just fun.

Creating something with your hands can be therapeutic, and promotes feelings of relaxation and calm, stimulates your imagination, and boosts your self-esteem and feelings of accomplishment, even if only temporarily.

Here are some ways to get that feeling back again:
  • Grab a pen and paper and just draw. Not sure where to start? Check out this book: art Before Breakfast
  • Learn how to paint! I took a class at a local art studio, and now I'm learning how to paint watercolor & acrylic. There are plenty of free instruction videos on YouTube. Depending on what medium you choose, you can start with a minimal investment and get started. Here's where I get my art supplies: Blick.com
  • Get cooking! Maybe art isn't your thing, but if you love to cook, here's your creative outlet.
  • Do something physical with your hands: gardening, woodworking, build a birdhouse, scrapbooking, knit, crochet, sew, build a boat.
Just make it something you enjoy and get 'lost' in, meaning you get in the 'zone' or 'flow state', where you lose your sense of time because you're really into what you're doing.

Essential oils that I diffuse to help me feel creative when I'm painting are Wild Orange (the oil of Abundance) and Ylang Ylang (the oil of the Inner Child), which brings back the fun and joy of playing with color and creating stuff with your hands. Like when you were a kid, and anything was possible.

time in nature

  • Go for a walk. Get outside and get grounded. Find a park, forest or open space in nature, away from the noise of urban life. Literally, walk barefoot on grass, sand or dirt, or just stand there for 20 minutes. The  benefits  of getting grounded include:
    • Reduced anxiety, improved mood
    • Reduced inflammation & chronic pain
    • Improved sleep & healing
    • Connecting with Earth's natural frequencies
  • Can't get outside to get grounded? No problem. I use Balance Grounding Blend by doTERRA on the bottoms of my feet every morning... helps balance your body electrically.
  • Can't get away from the city? You can get grounded on concrete, and better yet, wet concrete. Find a place where you can get your bare feet on a wet patio or walkway. Grab a hose or a bottle of water. This is actually one of my favorite things to do on those warm Summer evenings: I sit in a patio chair with a hose, a glass of wine and a book, and rinse off my bare feet and let them sit on the wet concrete. Soothing and relaxing, and it's free!
